HC Schools

Schools are able to publish their school newsletters in PDF format by simply selecting the PDF document on their local computer and enter a date for the newsletter. The newsletter will be automatically added to the site as the latest newsletter. As new newsletters are added, the current latest newsletter is put into the archive for users to still view.

The guestbook allows visitors to the site to leave comments for both the school and other visitors to the site. All comments must be screened and authorised by someone at the school before the comment becomes available for the public to view. This is a necessary measure which will stop inappropriate comments from being published on the site.

In the news section the school will normally post information about things which happen in the school. For example information about an incursion at the school or the results of a sports carnival might be posted in this section.

The events module is used to broadcast upcoming events at the school such as sports carnivals or concerts. The events module is usually displayed on the right hand side of the pages under the "Upcoming Events" header.

Pages can be created to display any kind of text information you wish. For example, a page may be created for the library to announce new book arrivals, or for the physical education department to display carnival results. Each page can have downloads attached which is ideal if you wish to publish documents such as permission slips for parents to download. Each page can also be linked to a number of photo albums related to that page. Links can be created from within the page either to other pages in the website, or other sites completely.

Each class can have their own section on the website which displays information about the class. It is up to the school as to what this information contains, but it generally introduces the classroom teacher and details the work that the class will be doing throughout the term. Each class also has a photo album in which the students' work can be displayed to the public.

The links module shows links to other pages on the internet. The links are ordered in a category structure where each category can have sub-categories and links underneath it. Examples of links may be to educational games sites, book authors' sites or to other schools in the area.

A password protected staff area is available for schools to use. The area can hold download for teachers to download either at home or on site. This can greatly reduce the load on office staff when other staff members require documents.

The photos module allows the school to display a range of photos in different albums. Examples of photo albums might be assemblies, sports carnivals or excursions.

The calendar allows a tabular layout of events and important dates in the school. Each day can have a different background colour, so that school holidays or public holidays can be easily identified at a first glance. The text colour for each event can also be changed to keep a theme for each type of event.
